Acupuncture to support perimenopause transition

Perimenopause can arrive quietly, often in your early to mid 40s, sometimes sooner. One month you’re sleeping well. The next you’re waking at 3am drenched in sweat, snapping at people you love, and wondering why your digestion has gone on strike.

These changes are common, and you don’t have to simply grit your teeth through them.

How acupuncture can help

In Chinese medicine, perimenopause is a natural shift in the body’s balance, not an illness. Acupuncture works with that shift, supporting the nervous system and helping the body regulate itself. Research on acupuncture for menopausal symptoms is still developing, but many women find it a calming and worthwhile addition to their self-care.

Hot flashes and night sweats: Treatment aims to cool and settle the system, and many women notice their flashes becoming less intense or less frequent.

Sleep challenges: Acupuncture encourages the body into a rest-and-restore state, which can make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Mood swings: Regular sessions can ease the feeling of being constantly on edge, and many women describe feeling steadier and more like themselves.

Constipation: Digestion often slows as hormones fluctuate. Acupuncture can support healthy bowel movement, and we’ll often look at diet and daily rhythms too.

A whole-person approach

No two women experience perimenopause in the same way. Each session begins with listening to your symptoms, your energy, your stress levels and your history, so your treatment is tailored to you rather than a standard protocol.

After more than 15 years in practice, with a background in women’s health, I’ve seen how much difference it can make to feel supported through this stage of life.

If your symptoms are severe or sudden, it’s always worth speaking with your GP as well. Acupuncture can work alongside other care.
