Frequently Asked Questions

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

I've answered the questions I'm asked most often below. If something isn't covered, or you'd prefer to talk it through, you're very welcome to get in touch – I'm always happy to help.

  • No. Although Systemic Family Constellations originated as a way of exploring family relationships and intergenerational patterns, it can be applied to many different areas of life.

Our families are often the first systems we belong to, and the experiences, beliefs and loyalties we inherit can shape how we relate to ourselves, others, work, success, health and the choices we make. As a result, issues that may not appear to be “family problems” can often have roots in wider family or systemic dynamics.

People bring Systemic Family Constellations a wide variety of concerns, including:

    • Relationship challenges and difficulties with intimacy or trust

    • Anxiety, stress, or recurring emotional patterns

    • Career, business and financial struggles

    • Major life transitions and decision-making

    • Feelings of being stuck or held back

    • Grief and loss

    • Questions around identity, belonging and purpose

    • Health challenges and their wider emotional or systemic context

Not every issue is directly related to family. Sometimes what emerges reveals influences from other systems we belong to – organisations, communities, cultural backgrounds, or significant life events. Family Constellations offers a way of looking beneath the surface to uncover hidden dynamics and open up new possibilities. Whatever you're carrying, the process can bring greater clarity, understanding and movement.

  • A one-to-one session offers a private, personalised space to explore a challenge, question or recurring pattern in your life. Together, we work with your family system and the wider influences that may be affecting your wellbeing, relationships, work or sense of direction.

Unlike a group workshop or constellations circle, the session is focused entirely on your process and unfolds at a pace that feels right for you.

You can read more on the What is Family Constellations? page.

  • Yes, and many clients are surprised by the depth and impact of online work. Constellations can be just as effective via video call, using visual representations, objects, spatial exercises and guided awareness processes to explore dynamics in the same way as an in-person session.

  • Both can be equally powerful. Some people value the convenience and comfort of working from their own home; others prefer being physically present in the room. The most important factor is not the format but your willingness to engage with the process – in either setting, the aim is to create a safe, supportive space for genuine exploration and insight.

  • People come to Family Constellations with a wide range of concerns – relationship difficulties, family conflict, parenting challenges, anxiety and stress, recurring emotional patterns, health and fertility problems, career and business challenges, difficult life transitions, grief and loss, and questions around belonging, identity or purpose.

You don't need to arrive with a clearly defined problem. Sometimes a sense that something isn't working, or that you keep arriving at the same place however hard you try, is enough to begin.

  • No. While any information you have may provide useful context, an extensive knowledge of your family history is not required. We work with what is known – and with what emerges during the session itself.

  • We begin by exploring the issue you'd like to work with and clarifying your intention for the session. Through a constellation process, using objects, markers, visualisation or other systemic methods, we uncover the underlying dynamics that may be influencing your experience. The session is guided gently and collaboratively, with space for reflection, insight and integration throughout.

For a fuller picture of what to expect, visit the What Is Systemic Family Constellations? page.

  • Not necessarily. Family Constellations often requires far less storytelling than people expect. You are always in control of what you choose to share, and we focus only on what you feel is relevant to the work.

  • Sessions typically last 90 minutes, depending on the nature of the work and what emerges during the constellation.

  • There is no set number. Some people experience meaningful insights and genuine shifts after a single session; others return over time to explore different layers of their personal or family system.

For those seeking deeper or ongoing transformation, a series of sessions can provide support, continuity and integration. You can find the different session and package options on the Pricing page.

  • People often report feeling clearer, lighter, more grounded, or more connected to themselves and others. Sometimes insights arrive immediately; at other times, changes unfold gradually over the days and weeks that follow. Each constellation has its own rhythm, and there is no right or wrong way for the process to continue after the session.

  • While Family Constellations is sometimes referred to as constellations therapy, it is distinct from psychotherapy, counselling or medical treatment. It is a systemic approach that helps reveal hidden patterns and dynamics that may be influencing your life, and it can be a valuable complement to therapy, coaching and other personal development or healing work.

  • If you find yourself returning to the same patterns, seeking a deeper understanding of something that hasn't fully resolved, or simply curious about what might be driving things beneath the surface, Systemic Family Constellations may well be worth exploring.
